I would need hangar space, garage space, lake space....

i'm curious ... how much does landing on water increase the degree of difficulty ?

as I understand it, it depends on the condition of the water. If it's glass smooth, it's extremely difficult to tell how far above it you are...so the pilot will fly above it very level and just shallowly let it settle...but that takes time and ALOT more distance. It's just another skill like any other method of landing a tricycle / tail-dragger / glider type of plane.

PBY! Hadn't thought about this, but yes. Alongside the B-25 and the P-47, it would go nicely there. Seaplane hanger with a large ramp, need a beach location. Ok. I would keep the .50 cals though, just because.

And a seaplane rating...and are you multiengine rated? :) but if you ever win the lottery feel free to share that baby.
Ugh. I have one night to memorize a POH and I have a raging headache.

Sorry. Tried editing you're obviously AMEL.

multi-engined ATP. what poh are you working on? Flash cards on limitations are the best way. If you get one wrong put it in back, if you get it right, put it in a pile next to you. after a while youll remember the missed ones.

That's why I tried to edit. Remembered you're ATP. Just a C182R. Hopefully I get my high performance next week so I can get back to racking up more PIC hours since the plane I currently have access to is the 182. Oh yeah, plus I trained on glass so this will be only my fourth flight on steam gauges.
I'm hoping to get in a couple of approaches, a hold, some night landings and other landings adding up to at least ten. I'm not night current and I want to keep my IFR current. :/
The CFI's I work with are awesome. We try to make every flight xcountry. One of them is trying to get his last hundred of xcountry.
So flash cards with limitations and V speeds?

yes. Vspeeds (incl. gear and flap), weights (empty, max, cargo compartment), capacity (gallons of fuel, qts oil, etc.) temps perhaps if it says. It won't be all that tough cause you're using the speeds all the time and they're probably some similar to the normal 182. work on procedural things. GUMPS check saves your life in a complex plane at first until it's muscle memory. I don't care now nerdish it may be i told my students always use that checklist. We do. I'm required to at least touch it during sim stuff.

Actually the 182 isn't complex. The Seminole I got my multiengine and IFR is. I've only ever flown Cessnas three times. But those three times I still tried to lower gear that was fixed on final. The knobs instead of levers for mixture, props, throttle still throws me off for some reason.

I'm sorry i mis-read it as 182rg...not R. Good luck. it's just an endorsement really not a check ride so you get that when you get it. Enjoy the training and flying now because if you're looking to do this professionally, a regional airline works you hard and it becomes a JOB. that's hard to avoid so it's.....not enjoyable work at that point. people make it fun. there's all kinds of amazing people to work with here.

I love flying. Actually I'm hoping to fly cargo. Which yeah I know. Crappy weather and all that. Like I've known cargo pilots that had the boxes offloaded, trucked an hour away by ground then the pilot basically took off basically zero zero to go to the other airport to reload. And loads of icing horror stories up here.

i flew cargo in the northeast. have icing stories yes (one absolutely horrid) but also there's guys that don't make it out of cargo...and i mean they're not alive. bad luck. The most accidents in flying is from pt.135 unscheduled freight. At least I was scheduled. If you fall into a good company, then it's a good job with a decent schedule but there's plenty of bad schedules too. Imagine not having a straight 7-8 hours sleep for 2 years or so...but you get plenty of chances to split the sleep in the day. It's not glamorous at all. It's a time builder. If you're looking for a good place I recommend Wiggins in the northeast. Caravan work and decent pay for it as a FedEx feeder.

Slightly sorry to keep picking your brain but am I going to get much shit since I'm a woman?

Nope. Cargo isn't glamorous. It's downright tiring and difficult to manage if you do it in a terrible part of country. It's one of those jobs that builds the pilot character. Showing up at an airline with a lot of good weather experience helps quite a bit. Being a woman has no downside in this business. no problem. any questions ill answer.

But I'm going to need to build hours a d not sure I want to go the CFI route. So I got my high performance endorsement. The CFI thought it's funny because the twin I got my multi in has much more total hp. :) but rules are rules. So now I'm back to getting more PIC hours.

Total Power compared to weight is the difference in high performance. I flew a Duchess for the multi. Its really a piper. Not too fast. But when I got into an A36 Bonanza? There is a reason it's a doctor killer. Take a week or two off from flying it and you get behind the plane. Like they say, with great power comes great responsibility lol. My dad was in college in the early 60's and told me about the airport behind his apartment. A guy had a surplus P-51 Mustang. Put too much power into it right away on the takeoff and the torque from that engine rolled the plane over on it's back before it had takeoff speed. There's 200+ horsepower, and then theres 300hp or more and not much more weight. you can feel the difference in rudder required....alot more needed.
CFI? it sucks true. but you learn so much more about people in general. I hated it when I did it but looking back, I liked it. seeing that 45 year old redneck all of a sudden able to fly the heck out of that plane overnight when it all clicked....that's worth it. He found the fun. So did I. But it does suck. Whats your ultimate goal? corporate or airline?

If I can get the hours quickly enough airline. I think with the new changes I'll need 1250. I'm only at about 200 total, maybe 80 PIC.

You'll need ATP too...if a cargo place is still hiring with less time than regionals get on with them and make sure they work equipment heavier than 12.5k lbs. Or you won't ge t an ATP for free from them with a type. Just an idea

So I need a type rating for ATP? Right now I'm focused on xcountry time and commercial maneuvers. Like I'm trying to pick up the hours I need then go back to the part 141 university I've been at. Cheaper to get my xcountry the way I'm doing it than their 19k class. I now have two really nice CFIs that are volunteering their time so I'm just paying for the plane and fuel.

Oh no You don't need atype for the atp. Its just easier to get a free atp rating when you go for a type rating. Typically a c ompany will pay for it. But getting an atp in a seminole is just fine too. At this time and when you have the hours, you will have a job at your pick of a regional. They will always be hiring. American eagle can't fill classes and republic can't get enough. They're just a bit short.
